The health advantages of increased protein consumption were established way back in the 1900s and even referred to at the time of Hippocrates. However, it has only been recently that health experts have fully endorsed whey protein as a perfect source of all the essential proteins that the human body needs.

The instant and phenomenal success of whey protein has practically eliminated the need for all other protein sources available on the market. This has prompted some who are quite sceptical to question the efficacy of whey protein and highlight its possible dangers. Such health concerns are especially focussed on athletes and bodybuilders who take excessive amounts in order to effectively and efficiently develop muscle mass.

The theory behind this is that increasing the consumption of protein can somehow cause possible strain in the kidney since it will be forced to process and break down its component in greater quantities. In other words, people should be advised to get their protein from many sources and not just solely rely on whey supplements. This cannot be considered to be substantial research however, mainly because humans and rats are two very different beings. This argument has nonetheless further fuelled the debate in some sectors on the dangers of whey protein.

Since most of the manufacturers are aggressively competing against each other to generate interest, they often employ marketing schemes that can lead people to believe some of the more contentious therapeutic claims made primarily to generate more sales.

In view of the dangers of whey protein raised by many people, a simple rule applies which should put an end this incessant squabble. Like everything else, whey protein should be taken in moderation. Overly prolonged use of whey protein can trigger some health complication that we may not know of. So it’s better not to entirely rely exclusively on whey products for your protein source.
